WESTFIELD, IN – This weekend, June 2-4, Indiana Soccer is hosting its annual Memorial Cup. Inspired by the tragic loss of Rachael Fiege in 2013, the Indiana Memorial Cup was established to honor all of Indiana’s youth soccer players and youth referees that have lost their lives before the age of 21.
This year’s event includes 144 teams from 29 clubs to honor the 39 former Indiana Soccer players and referees who lost their lives before the age of 21. Games begin on Friday night and run through Sunday early afternoon. All teams will play a guaranteed three games in a format focused on fun, fair play and sportsmanship. The event will feature a moment of silence before the start of play on Saturday at 7:45 AM for all turf fields and a lunch reception for the families of honorees will be held from 11am-2pm on the hill in the grassy area to the north of field 8 near tournament HQ.
Yohohama will be present on Field 8 with a FunZone activity open to all ages and Indiana Soccer will also feature former Indiana Director of Coaching Vince Ganzberg on Field 8 running skills based contests from 9am-3pm on Field 8.
Proceeds raised for the event will benefit the Indiana Soccer Foundation scholarship fund for players who demonstrate financial need to participate in soccer and the values through sport grant, as well as, the Indiana Soccer futsal initiative, which helps to bring the sport of soccer to underserved urban and rural communities by developing futsal courts.
Also taking place this weekend is the Bullpen Freedom Classic Baseball Tournament featuring 60 teams from across the Midwest. It is one of the first high school aged tournaments of the summer playing season. Additionally, the PerfectGame Baseball Super25 Qualifier Event for the Ohio Valley region is being held at Grand Park for 13U teams this weekend.
